Function Health Acquires Ezra, Merging Lab Testing and AI-Powered Medical Imaging

Function Health, a preventive health and longevity startup, has acquired Ezra, an AI-powered medical imaging company, in a move that combines two emerging health trends into a single platform. The acquisition aims to integrate Function's extensive lab testing capabilities with Ezra's artificial intelligence-driven full-body scans, creating a comprehensive preventive health solution.

A New Standard in Preventive Health

The merger of Function Health and Ezra represents a significant step forward in personalized preventive healthcare. Function Health, which offers a membership-based platform providing access to over 160 lab tests, will now incorporate Ezra's AI-powered full-body MRI scans into its service offerings.

Jonathan Swerdlin, co-founder and CEO of Function Health, stated, "From day one, we had a vision to include imaging and scans. This combination creates the new standard of care with a data set that will allow AI to become predictive—potentially identifying health issues before they occur."

Democratizing Access to Advanced Diagnostics

A key outcome of this acquisition is the dramatic reduction in both cost and time required for full-body MRI scans. The companies are now offering:

  • A full-body MRI scan that takes only 22 minutes, down from the previous hour-long standard
  • A price point of $499, significantly lower than the previous $1,500 cost

Emi Gal, founder and CEO of Ezra, who will continue to lead the Ezra business as a subsidiary of Function, emphasized the importance of early detection: "Ezra is revolutionizing early cancer detection, and it claims it has helped 6% of its members identify potential cancer early."

Expanding Accessibility and Capabilities

Function Health plans to make these advanced diagnostic services widely available:

  • The new, faster, and lower-priced scans are immediately available to all Function members at nearly 100 locations across the U.S.
  • Plans are in place to expand to more than 1,000 locations in the coming months

Additional scans now being offered include:

  • Assessments for spinal issues affecting mobility
  • Early-stage fatty liver disease detection
  • Precise body composition details surpassing DEXA scan capabilities

Dr. Dan Sodickson, Chief Scientific Advisor of Ezra, highlighted the potential of this development: "This longitudinal dataset reveals subtle changes over time that catch immediate issues and can predict disease before symptoms even appear."
