Two Chairs Expands Virtual Mental Health Services to 19 New States

Hybrid psychotherapy provider Two Chairs has announced plans to extend its virtual services to 19 additional states by summer 2025, significantly broadening its reach across the United States. This expansion comes on the heels of a successful $72 million Series C funding round completed last year.

Expansion Strategy and Coverage

Two Chairs' virtual expansion will target key states including Texas, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Michigan. While the initial focus is on virtual care, the company remains open to establishing brick-and-mortar clinics as needed. Currently, over 95% of Two Chairs patients engage in virtual therapy sessions.

To support this growth, Two Chairs has bolstered its clinical team, bringing on board new therapists, some of whom are cross-licensed to practice in multiple states. This strategic hiring approach aligns with the company's goal of providing high-quality care across a broader geographic area.

Innovative Approach to Mental Health Care

Two Chairs distinguishes itself in the competitive mental health landscape through its commitment to measurement-based care and evidence-based practices. The company collects patient-reported outcomes data for nearly all patients, with 94% compliance before each appointment. This approach is notable, as fewer than 20% of therapists nationwide employ measurement-based care techniques.

Alex Katz, founder and CEO of Two Chairs, emphasized the importance of this approach, stating, "The median quality of therapy in this country is not good. It is not aligned with the research, with evidence-based practice. It's not utilizing measurement-based care."

Clinical Model and Patient Care

Two Chairs employs a W2 model for its therapists, which the company believes is crucial for maintaining high standards of care. This structure allows for mandatory training and adjustments to clinical approaches, as explained by Colleen Marshall, LMFT, chief clinical officer at Two Chairs.

The company's clinical model enables it to treat a wide range of patients, from those with mild to moderate presentations to individuals with comorbidities or suicidal ideation. This capability is supported by a comprehensive care infrastructure, including clinical managers, care navigators, risk programs, crisis services, and psychiatric referrals.

Two Chairs also prides itself on its human-centered approach to therapist-patient matching. While utilizing AI technology, the company ensures that a human therapist conducts the initial matchmaking consult and clinical assessment before algorithmic matching occurs. This process has resulted in 98% of patients reporting satisfaction with their therapist match.

As Two Chairs embarks on this significant expansion, the company aims to maintain its focus on quality care while reaching millions more Americans in need of mental health services.
